1 하늘 아래 모든 일에는 시기가 있고 모든 목적한 것에는 때가 있도다.
1 To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
-
2 날 때가 있고 죽을 때가 있으며 심을 때가 있고 심은 것을 뽑을 때가 있으며
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted;
-
3 죽일 때가 있고 고칠 때가 있으며 무너뜨릴 때가 있고 세울 때가 있으며
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
-
4 울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있으며 애곡할 때가 있고 춤출 때가 있으며
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 돌들을 버릴 때가 있고 돌들을 함께 모을 때가 있으며 껴안을 때가 있고 껴안는 것을 금할 때가 있으며
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 얻을 때가 있고 잃을 때가 있으며 지킬 때가 있고 버릴 때가 있으며
6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 찢을 때가 있고 꿰맬 때가 있으며 잠잠할 때가 있고 말할 때가 있으며
7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 사랑할 때가 있고 미워할 때가 있으며 전쟁할 때가 있고 화평할 때가 있도다.
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

9 일하는 자가 자기가 수고하는 것에서 무슨 유익을 얻으리요?
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

10 [하나님]께서 사람들의 아들들에게 해산의 고통을 주사 그 안에서 단련 받게 하신 것을 내가 보았노라.
10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

11 그분께서 자신의 때에 모든 것을 아름답게 만드셨고 또 그들의 마음속에 세상을 정하여 두셨으므로 아무도 [하나님]께서 만드시는 일을 처음부터 끝까지 알아 낼 수 없도다.
11 He hath made every [thing] beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

12 사람이 사는 동안에 기뻐하는 것과 선을 행하는 것 외에 그들 안에 다른 선한 것이 없는 줄을 내가 알며
12 I know that [there is] no good in them, but for [a man] to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

13 또 모든 사람이 먹고 마시며 자기의 모든 수고로 인한 좋은 것을 누려야 하는 것이 [하나님]의 선물인 줄도 아노라.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it [is] the gift of God.

14 내가 알거니와 무엇이든지 [하나님]께서 행하시는 것은 영원하리라. 그것에 무엇을 더하거나 그것에서 무엇을 뺄 수 없나니 [하나님]께서 그것을 행하시는 것은 사람들이 자신 앞에서 두려워하게 하려 하심이라.
14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth [it], that [men] should fear before him.

15 지금까지 있던 것이 지금 있으며 앞으로 있을 것도 이미 있었나니 [하나님]은 이미 지나간 것을 요구하시느니라.
15 That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

16 ¶ 또 내가 해 아래에서 재판하는 곳을 보았는데 거기에도 그 사악함이 있고 의를 행하는 곳 거기에도 그 불법이 있도다.
16 And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, [that] wickedness [was] there; and the place of righteousness, [that] iniquity [was] there.

17 내가 내 마음속으로 이르기를, [하나님]께서 의로운 자와 사악한 자를 심판하시리니 이는 모든 목적한 것과 모든 일에는, 거기에는 때가 있기 때문이라, 하였도다.
17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for [there is] a time there for every purpose and for every work.

18 내가 내 마음속으로 사람들의 아들들의 상태에 대하여 이르기를, [하나님]께서 그들을 드러내시리니 이것은 자기들이 짐승임을 그들이 보게 하려 하심이라, 하였노라.
18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

19 사람들의 아들들에게 일어나는 것이 짐승들에게 일어나나니 곧 한 가지 일이 그들에게 일어나느니라. 이것이 죽는 것 같이 저것도 죽나니 참으로 그들이 다 한 숨을 가졌도다. 그러므로 사람이 짐승보다 뛰어날 것이 없나니 이는 모든 것이 헛된 것이기 때문이로다.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all [is] vanity.

20 모두가 한 곳으로 가나니 모두가 흙에서 나와 모두가 다시 흙으로 돌아가거니와
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

21 위로 올라가는 사람의 영과 땅으로 내려가는 짐승의 영을 누가 알리요?
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

22 그러므로 사람이 자기 일들을 기뻐하는 것보다 더 나은 것이 없음을 내가 깨닫노니 이는 그것이 그의 몫이기 때문이라. 누가 그를 데려다가 그의 뒤에 어떤 일이 일어날지 보여 주겠느냐?
22 Wherefore I perceive that [there is] nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that [is] his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
