1. 1 하늘 아래 모든 일에는 시기가 있고 모든 목적한 것에는 때가 있으니

   1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

2. 2 날 때가 있고 죽을 때가 있으며 심을 때가 있고 심은 것을 뽑을 때가 있으며

   2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3. 3 죽일 때가 있고 고칠 때가 있으며 허물 때가 있고 세울 때가 있으며

   3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,

4. 4 울 때가 있고 웃을 때가 있으며 애곡할 때가 있고 춤출 때가 있으며

   4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5. 5 돌들을 버릴 때가 있고 돌들을 함께 모을 때가 있으며 껴안을 때가 있고 껴안는 것을 금할 때가 있으며

   5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

6. 6 얻을 때가 있고 잃을 때가 있으며 지킬 때가 있고 버릴 때가 있으며

   6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7. 7 찢을 때가 있고 꿰맬 때가 있으며 침묵할 때가 있고 말할 때가 있으며

   7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,

8. 8 사랑할 때가 있고 미워할 때가 있으며 전쟁할 때가 있고 화평할 때가 있느니라.

   8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

9. 9 일하는 자가 자기가 수고하는 것에서 무슨 유익을 얻으리오?

   9 What does the worker gain from his toil?

10. 10 내가 해산의 고통을 보았는데 하나님께서는 그것을 사람들의 아들들에게 주사 그 가운데서 단련받게 하셨느니라.

    10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men.

11. 11 그분께서 자신의 때에 모든 것을 아름답게 만드셨으며 또한 그들의 마음속에 세상을 정하여 두셨으므로 아무도 하나님께서 만드시는 일을 처음부터 끝까지 알아낼 수 없느니라.

    11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

12. 12 사람이 자기가 사는 동안에 기뻐하는 것과 선을 행하는 것 외에 그들 안에 더 좋은 것이 없음을 내가 알며

    12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.

13. 13 모든 사람이 먹고 마시며 자기의 모든 수고로 얻은 좋은 것을 누리는 것이 하나님의 선물인 줄도 내가 아노라.

    13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil--this is the gift of God.

14. 14 무엇이든지 하나님께서 행하시는 것, 그것이 영원히 있을 줄을 내가 아노라. 그것에 무엇을 더하거나 그것에서 무엇을 뺄 수 없나니 하나님께서 그것을 행하시는 것은 사람들이 자신 앞에서 두려워하게 하려 하심이라.

    14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.

15. 15 지금까지 있던 것이 지금 있으며 앞으로 있을 것도 이미 있었나니 하나님께서는 이미 지나간 것을 요구하시느니라.

    15 Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account.

16. 16 ¶ 또 내가 해 아래에서 재판하는 곳을 보았는데 거기에도 그 사악함이 있었고 의가 있어야 할 곳, 거기에도 그 불법이 있었느니라.

    16 And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment--wickedness was there, in the place of justice--wickedness was there.

17. 17 내가 내 마음속으로 이르기를, 하나님께서 의로운 자와 사악한 자를 심판하시리니 이는 모든 목적한 것과 모든 일, 거기에는 때가 있기 때문이라, 하였으며

    17 I thought in my heart, "God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed."

18. 18 내가 내 마음속으로 사람들의 아들들의 상태에 대하여 이르기를, 하나님께서 그들을 드러내시리니 이것은 자기들이 짐승임을 그들이 보게 하려 하심이라, 하였노라.

    18 I also thought, "As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.

19. 19 이는 사람들의 아들들에게 일어나는 것이 짐승들에게 일어나기 때문이라. 즉 한 가지 일이 그들에게 일어나서 이것이 죽는 것같이 저것도 그렇게 죽나니 참으로 그들이 다 한 숨을 가지고 있도다. 그러므로 사람이 짐승보다 뛰어날 것이 없나니 이는 모든 것이 헛되기 때문이라.

    19 Mans fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless.

20. 20 모두가 한 곳으로 가며 모두가 흙에서 나와 모두가 다시 흙으로 돌아가는데

    20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.

21. 21 위로 올라가는 사람의 영과 땅으로 내려가는 짐승의 영을 누가 알리오?

    21 Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?"

22. 22 그러므로 사람이 자기 일들을 기뻐하는 것보다 더 나은 것이 없음을 내가 깨닫노니 이는 그것이 그의 몫이기 때문이라. 누가 그를 데려다가 그의 뒤에 무슨 일이 있을지 보여 주리오?

    22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?
