1. 1 또 그분께서 범법과 죄들 가운데서 죽었던 너희를 살리셨도다.

   1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,

2. 2 지나간 때에는 너희가 그것들 가운데서 이 세상의 행로를 따라 걸으며 공중의 권세 잡은 통치자 곧 지금 불순종의 자녀들 가운데서 활동하는 영을 따라 걸었느니라.

   2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

3. 3 지나간 때에는 우리도 다 그들 가운데서 우리 육신의 욕심 안에서 생활하며 육신과 생각의 욕망을 이루어 다른 사람들과 같이 본래 진노의 자녀들이었으나

   3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath.

4. 4 긍휼이 풍성하신 [하나님]께서 친히 우리를 사랑할 때 보여 주신 자신의 크신 사랑으로 인하여

   4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,

5. 5 심지어 우리가 죄들 가운데서 죽었을 때에 우리를 그리스도와 함께 살리셨고 (너희가 은혜로 구원을 받았느니라.)

   5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.

6. 6 또 함께 일으키사 그리스도 예수님 안에서 우리를 하늘의 처소들에 함께 앉히셨으니

   6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,

7. 7 이것은 그분께서 그리스도 예수님을 통해 우리에게 베푸신 친절 속에 담긴 자신의 은혜의 지극히 풍성함을 다가오는 시대들 속에서 보여 주려 하심이라.

   7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

8. 8 너희가 믿음을 통해 은혜로 구원을 받았나니 그것은 너희 자신에게서 난 것이 아니요 [하나님]의 선물이니라.

   8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--

9. 9 행위에서 난 것이 아니니 이것은 아무도 자랑하지 못하게 하려 함이라.

   9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

10. 10 우리는 그분의 작품이요 그리스도 예수님 안에서 선한 행위를 하도록 창조된 자들이니라. [하나님]께서 그 선한 행위를 미리 정하신 것은 우리가 그 행위 가운데서 걷게 하려 하심이니라.

    10 For we are Gods workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

11. 11 그러므로 기억하라. 너희는 지나간 때에 육체로는 이방인이요, 손으로 육체에 행하는 할례를 받아 [할례자]라 불리는 자에 의해 [무할례자들]이라 불리던 자들이라.

    11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)--

12. 12 그때에 너희는 그리스도 밖에 있었고 이스라엘 연방 국가 밖에 있던 외인들이며 약속의 언약들에서 분리된 낯선 자요 세상에서 소망도 없고 [하나님] 밖에 있던 자들이었으나

    12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.

13. 13 한 때 멀리 떨어져 있던 너희가 이제는 그리스도 예수님 안에서 그리스도의 피로 가까워졌느니라.

    13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.

14. 14 그분은 우리의 화평이시니라. 그분께서 둘을 하나로 만드사 우리 사이의 중간 분리 벽을 허무시고

    14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility,

15. 15 원수 되게 하는 것 즉 규례들에 수록된 명령들의 율법을 자기 육체로 없애셨으니 이것은 이 둘을 자기 안에서 하나의 새 사람으로 만듦으로써 화평을 이루려 하심이요,

    15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace,

16. 16 또 십자가로 그 원수 되게 하는 것을 죽이사 친히 십자가로 이 둘을 한 몸으로 [하나님]과 화해하게 하려 하심이라.

    16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.

17. 17 또 그분께서 오셔서 멀리 떨어져 있던 너희에게와 가까이 있던 그들에게 화평을 선포하셨느니라.

    17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.

18. 18 그분을 통하여 우리 둘이 한 성령을 힘입어 [아버지]께로 나아감을 얻나니

    18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

19. 19 그러므로 이제 너희는 더 이상 낯선 자와 외국인이 아니요 오직 성도들과 더불어 동료 시민이요 [하나님]의 집안에 속한 자들이며

    19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with Gods people and members of Gods household,

20. 20 또 사도들과 대언자들의 기초 위에 세워진 자들이니라. 예수 그리스도께서 친히 으뜸 모퉁잇돌이 되시나니

    20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

21. 21 그분 안에서 모든 건물이 꼭 맞게 함께 뼈대를 이루어 [주] 안에서 한 거룩한 전으로 자라가고

    21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.

22. 22 그분 안에서 너희도 성령을 통해 [하나님]의 처소로 함께 세워져 있느니라.

    22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
