1. 1 자녀들아, [주] 안에서 너희 부모에게 순종하라. 이것이 옳으니라.

   1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

2. 2 네 아버지와 어머니를 공경하라. (그것은 약속 있는 첫째 명령이니)

   2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise--

3. 3 이것은 네가 잘되고 땅에서 장수하게 하려 함이라.

   3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."

4. 4 또 너희 아버지들아, 너희 자녀들을 노엽게 하지 말고 오직 [주]의 교육과 훈계로 양육하라.

   4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

5. 5 종들아, 육체에 따라 너희의 주인 된 자들에게 두려워하고 떨며 단일한 마음으로 순종하기를 그리스도께 하듯 하라.

   5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.

6. 6 사람들을 기쁘게 하는 자들같이 눈으로 섬기지 말고 그리스도의 종들로서 마음으로부터 [하나님]의 뜻을 행하여

   6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart.

7. 7 선한 뜻으로 섬기기를 [주]께 하듯 하고 사람들에게 하듯 하지 말라.

   7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men,

8. 8 어떤 사람이 무슨 선한 일을 행하든지 그가 매인 자든지 자유로운 자든지 [주]에게서 바로 그것을 받을 줄을 너희가 아느니라.

   8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

9. 9 너희 주인들아, 그들에게 같은 일들을 행하고 협박하는 일을 삼가라. 너희 [주]인도 하늘에 계시나니 그분께서 사람들의 외모를 중시하지 아니하시는 줄 너희가 아느니라.

   9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.

10. 10 끝으로 내 형제들아, [주] 안에서와 그분의 강력한 권능 안에서 강건한 자가 되라.

    10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

11. 11 너희가 마귀의 간계들을 능히 대적하며 서기 위해 [하나님]의 전신갑주를 입으라.

    11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes.

12. 12 우리는 살과 피와 맞붙어 싸우지 아니하고 정사들과 권능들과 이 세상 어둠의 치리자들과 높은 처소들에 있는 영적 사악함과 맞붙어 싸우느니라.

    12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

13. 13 그러므로 너희가 악한 날에 능히 버티어 내고 모든 일을 행한 뒤에 서기 위해 [하나님]의 전신갑주를 취하라.

    13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

14. 14 그런즉 서서 진리로 너희 허리를 동여매고 의의 흉갑을 입으며

    14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

15. 15 화평의 복음을 예비한 것으로 너희 발에 신을 신고

    15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

16. 16 모든 것 위에 믿음의 방패를 취하여 그것으로 너희가 능히 그 사악한 자의 모든 불화살을 끄며

    16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

17. 17 구원의 투구와 성령의 검 곧 [하나님]의 말씀을 취하라.

    17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18. 18 모든 기도와 간구로 성령 안에서 항상 기도하되 모든 성도를 위해 모든 인내와 간구로 그 일에 깨어 있고

    18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

19. 19 또 나를 위하여는 내게 말하는 것을 허락하사 내가 담대히 입을 열어 복음의 신비를 알리도록 구하라.

    19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,

20. 20 이 일을 위하여 내가 결박당한 대사가 된 것은 결박 중에서도 마땅히 할 말을 내가 담대히 하게 하려 함이요,

    20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

21. 21 또 너희 역시 내 사정과 내가 어떻게 행하는지를 알게 하려 함이니 사랑받는 형제요 [주] 안에서 신실한 사역자인 두기고가 모든 일을 너희에게 알리리라.

    21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing.

22. 22 내가 그를 같은 목적으로 너희에게 보내었노니 이것은 곧 너희가 우리의 사정을 알게 하고 또 그가 너희 마음을 위로하게 하려 함이라.

    22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you.

23. 23 [하나님] [아버지]와 [주] 예수 그리스도로부터 평강과 아울러 믿음을 겸한 사랑이 형제들에게 있기를 원하노라.

    23 Peace to the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24. 24 우리 [주] 예수 그리스도를 성실하게 사랑하는 모든 자들에게 은혜가 있기를 원하노라. 아멘. ¶ 에베소 사람들에게 로마에서 써서 두기고 편에 보내다.

    24 Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
