1. 1 이런 까닭으로 너희 이방인들을 위해 예수 그리스도의 갇힌 자가 된 나 바울이 말하노니

   1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles--

2. 2 너희를 위해 내게 주어진 하나님의 은혜의 분배 경륜에 대하여 너희가 들었으리라.

   2 Surely you have heard about the administration of Gods grace that was given to me for you,

3. 3 곧 계시로 그분께서 내게 신비를 알리셨는데 (그것은 내가 전에 몇 마디 말로 적은 것과 같으니라.

   3 that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly.

4. 4 너희가 읽을 때에 그것에 의거하여 그리스도의 신비에 대해 내가 알고 있는 바를 깨달을 수 있으리라.)

   4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,

5. 5 그분께서는 자신의 거룩한 사도들과 대언자들에게 성령을 통해 이제 이 신비를 계시하신 것같이 다른 시대들에서는 사람들의 아들들에게 그것을 알리지 아니하셨는데

   5 which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to Gods holy apostles and prophets.

6. 6 이 신비는 곧 복음에 의해 이방인들이 그리스도 안에서 동료 상속자가 되고 같은 몸에 속하게 되며 그분의 약속에 참여하는 자가 된다는 것이라.

   6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.

7. 7 내게 주어진 하나님의 은혜의 선물에 따라 그분의 권능이 효력 있게 활동함에 힘입어 내가 복음의 사역자가 되었노라.

   7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of Gods grace given me through the working of his power.

8. 8 그분께서 모든 성도들 중에 가장 작은 자보다 더 작은 나에게 이 은혜를 주신 것은 헤아릴 수 없는 그리스도의 부요하심을 내가 이방인들 가운데서 선포하게 하려 하심이며

   8 Although I am less than the least of all Gods people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

9. 9 또 예수 그리스도에 의해 모든 것을 창조하신 하나님 안에 세상이 시작된 이후로 감추어져 온 이 신비에 참여하는 것이 무엇인지 모든 사람들이 보게 하려 하심이라.

   9 and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.

10. 10 이것은 그분께서 이제 교회를 사용하사 하늘의 처소들에 있는 권력들과 권능들에게 하나님의 갖가지 지혜를 알게 하려 하심인데

    10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,

11. 11 그것은 하나님께서 그리스도 예수 우리 주 안에서 작정하신 영원한 목적에 따른 것이니라.

    11 according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

12. 12 우리가 그리스도 안에서 그분의 믿음을 통해 담대함과 아버지께 확신 있게 나아감을 얻나니

    12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

13. 13 그러므로 너희를 위한 나의 환난들로 인해 너희가 낙심하지 않기를 내가 바라노라. 그것은 너희의 영광이니라.

    13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.

14. 14 이런 까닭으로 내가 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 아버지

    14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,

15. 15 곧 하늘과 땅에 있는 온 가족에게 이름을 주신 분께 무릎을 꿇고 비노니

    15 from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name.

16. 16 그분께서 자신의 영광의 풍성하심에 따라 자신의 영을 통해 속사람이 강력으로 강건하게 됨을 너희에게 허락하시고

    16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,

17. 17 믿음을 통해 그리스도께서 너희 마음속에 거하게 하시며 또 너희가 사랑 안에서 뿌리를 내리고 터를 잡아

    17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,

18. 18 모든 성도들과 함께 너비와 길이와 깊이와 높이가 어떠함을 깨닫고

    18 may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

19. 19 지식을 뛰어넘는 그리스도의 사랑을 알 수 있어 하나님의 모든 충만하심으로 충만하게 되기를 구하노라.

    19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

20. 20 이제 우리 안에서 일하는 권능에 따라 우리가 구하거나 생각하는 모든 것 이상으로 심히 넘치도록 행하실 수 있는 분께,

    20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,

21. 21 곧 그분께 영광이 그리스도 예수님을 통해 교회 안에서 모든 시대에 걸쳐 끝없는 세상에까지 있기를 원하노라. 아멘.

    21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
